DVD recorder/VCR combos are finally here. For those that are both replacing a VCR and want a DVD recorder, this flexible option gives you the best of the old and the new. You can use these units to play DVDs and VHS tapes, as well as record or copy homemade recordings (such as camcorder tapes, television recordings). However, keep in mind that DVD recorder/VCR combos cannot be used to copy commercially made DVD movies to VHS or commercially made VHS movies to DVD, due to copy-protection.

These models include a DVD slot and a hi-fi VHS slot in one unit. In most cases you can not only record directly onto either DVD or VHS tape from your camcorder or any other source, but also dub one format onto the other. These are great if you have some old tapes or prized memories you want to transfer over to DVD, to keep them from wearing out. You can also transfer your recorded DVD to tape if you know you need to bring your recorded content somewhere and won't have access to a DVD player. Of course, not all devices will record directly from DVD to VHS, or vice versa, so be sure to check.

These are generally a little more expensive than a basic DVD recorder, but you do get more versatility. For more information, check out DVD-Recorder-Reviews.info.
